Purple Tuesday is the UK’s first accessible shopping day, established to recognise the importance and needs of disabled consumers, and promote inclusive shopping.
Here at The Galleria, we are working hard to say ‘Welcome’ to as many people as possible every single day, and Purple Tuesday is our opportunity to remind you of how we are here to help. Here’s just some of the ways we can help:
- We have a Customer Service Desk on the upper level mall, which is manned whenever our stores are open. The team are on hand to help you with any queries and to offer advice to make your trip to The Galleria as enjoyable as possible. Click here to find out more about our services.
- Our car park has specific disabled bays. Find out more about our Car Park here.
- We have a number of disabled toilets on site.
- Mobility Scooters are available to hire for free during your shopping day. Click here to find out more.
On Purple Tuesday we are working even harder than usual. Many co-operating Brand Partners are offering a quiet hour between 10am – 11am, where music inside stores will be turned off, and lights will be dimmed to a lower level where possible. We are also working hard to improve the navigation within our stores, by offering clear paths and ensuring tables of stock are easy to move around.
We recognise that 20% of UK adults in the UK have a disability and of these, 80% of disabled people have ‘invisible’ or hidden impairments. Staff across the centre are receiving training to help us all to better understand how we can be helpful, and how we can become more confident and welcoming when interacting with all disabled customers.
