The Galleria Outlet Shopping Centre strongly believes in supporting local communities through charity partnerships and other local corporate responsibilities initiatives.
Barnardo’s has received a fundraising boost after Landsec raised more than £100,000 for its services for vulnerable children in the first year of their charity partnership.
During the year, Landsec, one of the UK’s largest listed commercial property companies, raised money for the children’s charity by launching the PiccadillyOn campaign, which counted down the days until the world-famous Piccadilly Lights were switched back on after nine months of darkness.
The campaign invited members of the public to donate at least £2 to Barnardo’s to sponsor a unique colour chip which formed part of a 3D countdown clock on the screen.
The company also raised more than £6,000 by holding a company-wide Barnardo’s Day, which saw different Landsec teams and sites from across the UK get involved to raise money and awareness for Barnardo’s. This included a Landsec-wide raffle, a quiz night, teams and retailers wearing green for the day and bake sales. Swing singer Max Curto, who also works at Barnardo’s, performed in Cardinal Place, a shopping site owned by Landsec, during the fundraising day.
A fireworks event at Gunwharf Quays, in Portsmouth, during the first year of the partnership also saw the Spinnaker Tower lit up in “Barnardo’s green”.
In addition, Landsec employees ran experience days for children and young people supported by Barnardo’s and took part in Store Wars challenges in Barnardo’s stores, which saw them compete against each other to raise the most money, while an employment programme in Edinburgh helped young people to get into work.
Following the success of the first year, Landsec has now announced it will enter into a second year of the partnership with Barnardo’s, supporting the charity with fundraising events, volunteering and employment programmes.
Barnardo’s Chief Executive Javed Khan, said:
“We are delighted that the charity partnership with Landsec has raised so much money in such a short space of time and would like to thank everyone for their contribution.
“Partnerships are incredibly valuable to Barnardo’s, as they help us to keep supporting hundreds of thousands of children, young people, parents and carers across the UK. We are very grateful that Landsec will be supporting us for another year.”
Miles Webber, Director of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability, Landsec, said:
“We are delighted to be partnering with Barnardo’s for a second year. We are very proud to be working with such a fantastic charity that directly impacts on the lives of children and young people across the country.”
